Multi-stakeholder events on sustainable space practices

In early 2021, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) convened a multi-stakeholder event series to raise awareness on the topic of space sustainability and to provide a platform for the sharing of related operational experience.

The events facilitated peer-to-peer dialogue and an exchange of existing sustainable space practices, as mapped to the Guidelines for the Long-term Sustainability of Outer Space Activities (LTS Guidelines). Each event engaged contributors from across the international space sector. Through case studies and lessons learned, the events facilitated capacity-building for other operators and stakeholders looking to enhance the sustainability of their own space activities.

The events highlighted experts representing:

  1. Commercial space sector

  2. Space agency operators

  3. Regulators and policymakers
